Dave Pettinari

Senior Forensics Investigator  

CASTCorp International is honored and privileged to announce that Dave Pettinari has joined our team of expert consultants and instructors.  Following a 20-year career with the Pueblo County, Colorado, Sheriff’s Office, he retired and immediately launched his own computer forensics and private investigations business.Pettinari formerly commanded the high-tech crimes unit at the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, which included participation in the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  He and his fellow officers were responsible for the arrests of 36 online predators that targeted children in chat rooms and via instant messaging.As a peace officer, Dave attended the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University.  He was trained in computer forensics, attending more than 36 computer crime and computer forensics schools, including the Federal Law Enforcement Center’s Criminal Investigations in an Automated Environment course, SEARCH Computer Crimes, SEARCH Investigation of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children, EnCase (basic, intermediate and advanced), and the National White Collar Crime Center’s Basic Data Recovery and Analysis, Advanced Data Recovery and Analysis, and Internet Trace Evidence Recovery and Analysis courses.  He holds the EnCE designation, meaning that he is EnCase certified.Dave is also a teacher and an author.  He has taught numerous national and state-wide seminars on subjects relating to the use of the internet for law enforcement intelligence and investigations, including identity-theft and computer crimes.  Since 1995, he has toured the U.S. teaching a course of his own design on computer and internet crimes and identity-theft investigation.  He is a former instructor for Internet Crimes Inc. and for Paraben Corp., where he taught the forensic science of locating and processing information on cell phones and PDAs.

As an author, Dave has published more than 100 articles in national publications, with roughly one-fourth of those dealing with computer crime and Internet crime topics.  Today, in addition to operating his business and serving as Senior Forensics Investigator at CASTCorp International, Dave teaches multiple courses at a college and two universities.

Dave holds a master’s degree in journalism from Marquette University where he was a J.L. O’Sullivan fellow.  He obtained his bachelor’s degree in political science from Regis College in Denver.

Following a 21-year career in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Major Pettinari retired in 2005.  Prior to that, he served as a reserve member of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, where he specialized in computer crimes investigation and anti-hacking.  He was also activated during the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, espionage investigation and charged with examining 500 gigabytes of data.  Dave served in England, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm and in Operation Provide Comfort, the airdrop mission to the Kurdish people.
